Experience

Attorney, Private general practice in Washington, D.C. — September 1991 to present. Concentrating on legal issues affecting publishers, editors, writers, photographers and other creative individuals; and civil and criminal appellate litigation.

Staff Attorney, The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, Washington, D.C. — June 1982 to August 1991. Supervised legal defense projects concerning access to courts, prior restraints on publication., libel and confidential sources. Supervised legal fellows and law and journalism student interns working on research and writing projects.

Assistant Director - Publications, The Reporters Committee — May 1983 to August 1991. Was responsible for editing and production of The NEWS Media & The LAW, a quarterly magazine, and News Media Update, a biweekly newsletter. These publications are aimed at lawyers who practice media law and news executives and reporters who must deal daily with legal issues including access to courts and government information, libel, and protection of confidential information.

Associate Professorial Lecturer, The George Washington University, Department of Journalism — January 1988 to May 1996. Taught mass communications law.
